August 2008, appointed Head PGA Professional; Alison Nicholas Golf Academy, Queslett Park, Great Barr, Birmingham, B42 2RG. Opening the First 'CentreCup' Putting Academy in January 2009.
Andy 40, is now in his 31st year playing golf. He enjoyed success as a junior and amateur golfer before turning Professional in 1990 - he has been a qualified PGA Golf Professional and member of the Professional Golfers Association since 1993. Since qualifying Andy has spend most of his time coaching and has had a great deal of success doing so. He won the Jamaican Pro's Championship in 1997 and coached the Jamaican National team during the five years he lived in Jamaica, working for the Jamaican Government & Sandals Resorts
One of the original coaches appointed to the Solihull College Golf Excellence Apprenticeship programme - Andy has coached six students (since 1997) who have been offered and accepted American University Scholarships (3 currently).
A father of three and committed Christian, Andy is a registered Golf Foundation Community Links Coach offering grass-roots coaching in schools and the local communityg to Juniors from 5 years of age. He is passionate about coaching children and his success has encouraged him to focus on Junior Golf Development.
Andy understands that the role of a coach varies dependent upon the needs of a student, and children are no different. Whether coaching a beginner aged 5 or an international athlete aged 17, coaches must be able to convert their knowledge into practical skill learning. This leads to sound basics that will stand-up to the needs of the golfer as they progress.
'A coaching role is not to be taken lightly - it is natural for youngsters (especially teenage boys) to look-up to significant adults developing a bond between their coaches in the form of 'mentor' almost a 'father-figure' role. For this reason choosing a respectable PGA Professional is vital in the life of a youngster'.
The Game of Golf lends itself to nurturing life-skills such as; Citizenship, Discipline, Honesty & Integrity, that will assist in the transition from child to adult.
The vision of KidsPlayGolf is that our team of PGA Pro's will introduce the game of golf, and its benefits to every child in the UK of Primary school age before 2020.
